Before heading to Singapore to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue, the US Secretary of Defense... Hegseth(Pete Hegseth) and his wife 珍妮佛Jennifer Hegseth appeared on the deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer on Friday (May 29) to participate in physical training with U.S. Navy and Marine Corps personnel and to address the crew. The footage has sparked discussion online.
On the 29th, Hegses posted a training video on the X platform, stating, "There's no better way to start the day than training with the U.S. Navy and Marines in the morning." In the video, he and his wife participate in training, jogging and doing physical exercises with several soldiers. The official X account of the U.S. Department of Defense also simultaneously posted photos of Jennifer participating in the training.
To boost troop morale, Hergace addressed the soldiers during training, emphasizing that it was the dedication and sacrifice of frontline soldiers that enabled him to speak about America's deterrent power and military strength.
Publicly displaying workout footage has become a regular publicity stunt for Hergé since taking office. He has released numerous workout videos in the past, including weight training with his son and exercising with foreign defense officials.
However, this high-profile publicity approach has also raised questions within the military. Insiders have privately stated that some public events place too much emphasis on personal image management. According to CBS, Hergace ordered a multi-thousand-dollar renovation of a lounge next to the Pentagon's press briefing room into a dressing room equipped with professional lighting and mirrors for television broadcasts. However, the Department of Defense has clarified that the space was simply a low-cost upgrade of existing equipment.
On the other hand, Jennifer's frequent appearances at military events have also drawn attention. She has recently accompanied Hegses to meetings with U.S. officials and foreign representatives on several occasions. Despite not holding any position in the Department of Defense, her frequent participation in these activities has continued to draw scrutiny.
No better way to start the day than morning PT with America's Sailors and Marines.
