Kura Sushi (くら寿司), a must-visit spot for Taiwanese travelers in Japan, has announced a full menu update on September 4, adjusting the prices of some items. The company’s headquarters in Japan stated today (August 20) that, in addition to launching 37 brand-new dishes including “two-in-one combos,” it will also make strategic price adjustments to existing items — some going up, some going down.
Kura Sushi explained that the price adjustments are due to soaring raw material costs and the weak yen, which have driven continued increases in procurement and energy expenses. Although the company has used artificial intelligence (AI) and systemization measures to cut costs and improve store operational efficiency, it has now become difficult to maintain both prices and quality through its own efforts alone.

A key highlight of this adjustment is the “lowered minimum base price.” At standard locations across Japan, the lowest plate price will drop from the current 115 yen to 110 yen; at the same time, some popular items will see price increases. Thirty-three core items originally priced at 115 yen — including “Salmon,” “Seared Bonito with Yuzu Salt,” “Raw Shrimp,” “Big-Leaf Calamari,” and “Surf Clam” — will be slightly raised to 120 yen.
Items popular with children, such as “Aged Yellowfin Tuna,” “Negitoro,” “Tamagoyaki,” “Hamburger Steak,” and “Corn,” will see price cuts, moving into the lowest 110-yen price tier. Meanwhile, Kura Sushi’s signature item, “Aged Tuna,” will remain unchanged at 120 yen.
In addition, the new menu will debut two-in-one plates offering two flavors on a single dish, such as “Salmon with Fresh Shrimp,” also priced at 110 yen.
