The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their road series against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday (October 7). The two teams stayed deadlocked until the top of the 7th, when Andy Pages delivered a clutch hit with the bases loaded, driving in 2 runs to break the tie; in the top of the 9th, Max Muncy added a solo homer to right field to seal the win. The Dodgers defeated the Braves 4-1, taking the series 3-1 to become the first team to advance to the National League Championship Series, continuing their pursuit of a three-peat.
In the first inning, Braves leadoff hitter Michael Harris II singled and stole second, then scored the game’s first run on a wild pitch from Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow. In the top of the 2nd, Shohei Ohtani drew a walk and stole second, prompting consecutive errors by Braves catcher Sean Murphy and shortstop Mauricio Dubon, allowing the Dodgers to tie the game without a hit.
The game remained tied at 1-1 through the middle innings. Although Glasnow struggled with his control and issued 5 walks, he kept the damage to a minimum, and Alex Vesia narrowly escaped a jam after he exited in the bottom of the 5th. The turning point came in the top of the 7th, when the Dodgers loaded the bases with 2 outs. Pages withstood a full-count pressure situation and delivered a go-ahead two-run single to center field, putting the Dodgers ahead 3-1.
In the top of the 9th, Muncy launched a solo homer to right field for a key insurance run; in the bottom of the 9th, star closer Edwin Diaz came on and closed it out. The Dodgers ultimately beat the Braves 4-1, winning the series 3-1 to punch their ticket to the National League Championship Series.
