A sexual assault case that shocked the world recently occurred in Karnataka, India. An Israeli female tourist and a local female tour guide were gang-raped by three strange men, and the three male tourists who were traveling with them were pushed into the river, causing one of them to drown. Currently, all three suspects have been arrested, but the case has caused panic in the local area, and a large number of tourists have chosen to leave, fearing for their own safety.
According to The Sun, the terrorist attack took place on the evening of the 6th of this month, when a 29-year-old local B&B hostess acted as a tour guide and brought four foreign tourists to the canal bank in Koppal to watch the stars. The group included a 4-year-old Israeli woman, an American man and two Indian men. However, their peaceful journey turned into a nightmare in an instant.
Three men on motorcycles suddenly appeared and took the opportunity to strike up a conversation, pretending to ask the Israeli woman and the female tour guide for directions. Then, when they failed to get money from the five people, they suddenly attacked them. They first pushed the three men into the river and then assaulted the two women.
The victim, a female tour guide, tearfully described the horrific situation when she was interviewed: "I was bleeding a lot. Two people dragged me to the river. One of them grabbed my throat and took off my clothes. The others then beat and sexually assaulted me." The two female victims were both seriously injured after the incident and were still receiving treatment in the hospital as of the 6th. Of the three male tourists who were pushed into the river, two managed to swim to the shore and escape, but the Indian man, Bibash, unfortunately drowned.
After the incident, the police quickly launched an investigation, filed a case for sexual assault and murder, and arrested two suspects, Sai Chetan and Mallesh, on the 8th, both of whom were local residents. The third suspect was arrested on the 9th after being identified through surveillance footage. Police revealed that the three men were construction workers and may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the crime, but the detailed identity of the third suspect has not yet been announced.
The horrific case went viral via WhatsApp, sending panic among locals and foreign tourists in particular into a state of panic. According to statistics from a local hotelier group, at least 400 tourists, most of them Israelis, fled the area overnight.
