232 Ukrainian drones sneaked into Russian territory and were shot down. Moscow airport temporarily suspended takeoffs and landings

Russo-Ukrainian War Ukraine Ukraine

Russian air defense forces shot down at least 5 Ukrainian drones over several regions of the country on Wednesday (May 21). As some Ukrainian drones approached the Russian capital Moscow, the airport in the region was briefly closed to ensure the safety of flights.

According to Reuters, most of the Ukrainian drones were shot down over western Russia bordering Ukraine, but some also came close to Moscow. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said three drones were shot down en route to the capital, and flights were briefly suspended at the capital's three main airports before resuming operations.

Even as the warring nations and European and American powers consider how to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, drone warfare has not ceased. Ukraine's military said the drone hit a semiconductor equipment factory in Oryol region, which it said supplies Russian fighter jets and missile makers.

The conflict, which has lasted for more than three years and has killed hundreds of thousands of people, was reported by the Ukrainian National Guard on Wednesday after Russian troops fired missiles on Tuesday that killed six soldiers who were training at a training camp. In response, the Russian Ministry of Defense took responsibility and said that as many as 20 Ukrainian troops were killed, including 6 instructors.
