Taiwanese users' familiar LINE payment function is about to change. Starting Wednesday (December 3rd) at 3 PM, LINE will officially launch its own electronic payment account, LINE Pay Money, replacing the previously integrated iPASS MONEY within LINE. This move also means that the two payment accounts will be officially separated, and users who do not handle their balances in advance may experience disruptions to their future use.

Previously, transferring money, topping up, or paying bills through LINE was all processed through iPASS MONEY, a system owned by iPASS Corporation, with LINE itself merely serving as the interface. This time, LINE has chosen to "take back control" of its payment transactions, with its subsidiary "LINE Pay" handling the process, officially launching LINE Pay Money, which has become LINE's only self-operated electronic payment service.

LINE Pay Money will be officially launched at 3 PM on December 3, 2025.

December 3-31, 2025: LINE and iPASS systems will operate in parallel, allowing users to check their balance and withdraw funds.

Starting January 1, 2026: iPASS MONEY will be completely phased out of LINE; a separate app download is required.

iPASS MONEY balances will not be automatically transferred to LINE Pay Money because they belong to two different electronic payment companies. According to regulations, LINE is not authorized to transfer funds to a new account on behalf of users.

You can do this:

If you plan to use LINE Pay Money in the future:
In your LINE Wallet, tap on iPASS MONEY, check your balance, manually withdraw the funds to your bank account, and then top up your LINE Pay Money account from your bank account.

To retain iPASS MONEY:
Download the "iPASS MONEY" App, log in with your original mobile number, and your balance and records will be retained.

The activation process consists of 3 steps:

  1. Update LINE and LINE Pay apps to the latest version.
  2. Complete identity verification (upload your ID card or residence permit).
  3. Linked bank accounts and credit cards will be automatically transferred.

LINE Pay Money is similar to the functions previously used within LINE, but with greater integration, including:

  • Friend transfers, sending red envelopes in chat rooms
  • Bank deposits and balance withdrawals
  • Payment of bills for water, electricity, gas, parking fees, etc.
  • Supports QR code payment for public transport; future users will be able to use it on the MRT and buses.
  • Earn LINE POINTS with your purchases and participate in LINE Pay rewards programs.

As long as the user's credit card is linked to the same LINE account and the card belongs to the user, the system will automatically transfer the card, and there is no need to re-link it.

Different operating units:
LINE Pay Money is operated by LINE's own subsidiary, LINE Pay; while iPASS MONEY is operated by iPass Inc.

Whether to integrate with the LINE system:
LINE Pay Money is fully integrated into the LINE Wallet, with a consistent operating process; however, iPASS MONEY will require a separate app download starting in 2026 and will no longer be usable within LINE.

Differences in credit card settings:
LINE Pay Money supports automatic transfer of credit card information (provided it's the same account and the same person); iPASS MONEY's credit card needs to be re-linked in the new app.

Different feedback mechanisms:
LINE Pay Money uses LINE POINTS as a reward for purchases; iPASS MONEY continues the "iPASS Green Points" system, and the two are not interchangeable.

How to use:
LINE Pay Money allows users to transfer money and pay bills directly within the LINE App; iPASS MONEY, after the separation, must be operated through a separate app.
