Former U.S. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell reportedly fell twice on Wednesday (February 2), one of which was a fall down the stairs. McConnell has frequently appeared absent-minded in public in the past, and now there are reports of him falling, causing people from all walks of life to worry about his health.
According to a report by American political media Punchbowl News, McConnell, 82, fell down the stairs and got up and left with the help of other senators; another time he fell in the Senate. Fox News reported that it was unclear whether McConnell was injured, but he appeared to be fine.
McConnell's spokesperson has not yet responded to the rumors of the fall.
McConnell served as the Senate Republican leader and was the longest-serving Senate leader in U.S. history. In July 2023, McConnell suddenly froze for 7 seconds while presiding over a press conference in Congress, and then left accompanied by his staff and other senators; one month later, McConnell suddenly froze for 20 seconds in public, and did not respond to questions from reporters and others around him. His frequent dazed state in public caused people from all walks of life to worry about his physical condition.
