A man in Staten Island, New York, was accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl at his friend's home. After being discovered by the girl's mother, he strangled her to prevent her from calling the police. After fleeing for many days, he was arrested and faces up to 19 counts.
According to reports from the New York Post and ABC, the 30-year-old suspect, Dominique Giles, was accused of sexually assaulting a 1-year-old girl at a friend's home on January 22. When the girl's mother saw him in her bedroom, Giles' pants had already dropped to his ankles.
According to court documents, the girl's mother immediately called the police, but Giles beat the girl's mother, strangled her neck and squeezed hard, causing the girl's mother to have difficulty breathing and even vomiting, and unable to talk to the 911 operator. The article mentioned that when Giles saw that she was unable to resist, he snatched her mobile phone and fled the crime scene on foot. The girl was later sent to the hospital for evaluation and her mother had bruises on her face and back.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) released Giles' photo and issued a wanted notice, and he was arrested by the Regional Fugitive Task Force a few days later. Giles appeared in Staten Island Criminal Court on Wednesday (5th) and was charged with 19 counts including sexual assault, robbery, sexual abuse, battery, strangulation, sexual misconduct, obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, and endangering the welfare of a child. The judge set his bail at $25.
This is not the first time this has happened. According to the police, Giles was arrested in April last year on suspicion of strangling and beating his girlfriend. He also broke his girlfriend's mobile phone and was later charged with crimes such as damage to property and injury.
