According to reports from AFP and CNN, the incident occurred on Thursday at noon. Ikner, 20, a student at Florida State University, opened fire on people who tried to escape on the campus grass, killing two people. According to police, the deceased was not a student on campus, but they refused to provide further details.
Sheriff Walt McNeil of the Leon County Sheriff's Department in Florida said, "It's unfortunate that her son was able to obtain one of her guns, which was one of the guns found at the scene." He also said that since Ikner had participated in the police department's training program in the past, "it's not surprising that he had access to weapons."
After the incident, US President Donald Trump expressed "regret" for the tragedy, but at the same time emphasized to all media in the White House that "it was not a gun that fired, but a person", and that he is still a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment to the US Constitution. The Second Amendment protects the right of American citizens to keep and bear arms.
