Gold climbed more than 2% on Thursday (September 17), staging a strong recovery from the nearly 6-week low hit the previous day. Falling international oil prices and the U.S. dollar retreating from its highs were the main catalysts pushing up gold prices, as investors continued to assess the outlook following the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) latest interest rate decision.

Spot gold rose 2.3% to US$4,360.36 per ounce; December gold futures closed up 0.3% at US$4,399.70 per ounce.

Other precious metal prices to watch:

Spot silver rose 4.2% to US$65.60 per ounce.

Spot platinum gained 1.8% to US$1,783.69 per ounce.

Spot palladium climbed 1.6% to US$1,289.45 per ounce.
